Soledad Tornes

Soledad Tornes

Soledad Tornes was the father of Celso Tornes Sierra and born in Spain possibly in Madrid.  He was the foreman of a large estate.  The young daughter of the owner of the estate, Germania Sierra, fell in love with Soledad, they became involved and Germania became pregnant.  Her parents and Soledad disowned her and Germania migrated to Mexico in 1856 or 1857.  They had a boy, Celso, born in Mexico, which later became part of the United States, this being the Alamo in San Antonio.

Soledad became partners with a man who owned a gold mine, which was probably located in Pacific slopes of Sierra Occidental.  Evidently, gold was not very productive and Soledad sold his share to his partner.  The gold mine became very productive after Soledad sold his share.

Soledad had some gold quartz from the mine and cuff links were made at a later date. They were quite beautiful with gold weaving around the quartz stone.  The sizes of the cuff links are about three quarters of an inch by an inch and a quarter.  Doug Seaman has one cuff link made into a mans ring and Carl Sierra Jr. has the other.  .

Sometime after selling his share of the gold mine, Soledad disappeared leaving Germania and his son, Celso, alone.  It is believed by the descendants of his family that bandits killed him as he was never seen or heard from again

Note:    Soledad is a name that has never been found on any documents.
